Steven Moffat revealed at a Doctor Who Press Conference on March 21st, 2012 that Coleman was going to play Matt Smith as the Doctor's Companion following the departure of Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill and others quit the show. Moffat claimed that he selected Coleman to be the companion because she would perform best alongside Smith. Also, Moffat noted that she talked faster than Smith.
